In this workshop hosted by Zhana Assaad, students are given an introduction to tarot reading. Learn how to understand the cards, their various uses, and their history.
Zhana treats the cards as a tool for intuitive storytelling and care in order to form one's own intuitive and creative practice. Together, we will approach the cards and their connotations from a critical perspective and utilise the concept of “critical hope,” which builds on a foundation of wholeness, and prioritises individual and community well-being. Rooted in methods of care for ourselves and each other, you will put your learnings into practice by teaming up in pairs and giving each other a reading to finish the session.
In a time when self care has become synonymous with selfishness, let’s critically examine ways of doing so while being mindful of others, and use the tarot as a tool for understanding ourselves and each other.

About Zhana:
Zhana Assaad (LB/UKR) is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer currently living in the Netherlands. Her work puts into light the role of faith during times of crisis and experiences of trauma while questioning faithlessness as a luxury. She explores a methodology revolving around the idea of a critical hope through workshops and installation works. Through her research, she studies the manifold aspects of mysticism inspired by a personal inner journey using a relevant artistic viewpoint. Utilizing practices termed as occult, she focuses on traditions of islamic faith, the tarot and aspects of critical hope and care through a critical social, political and psychological lens. This stems from her upbringing in a politically and economically unstable country where religion, faith and hope are at the forefront of ways of dealing with experiences of crisis.
